Kyoko & Si-Ho Sup Vol. 28 : Laundry Day / 洗濯日和

Sunshine at last after many rainy days!   A day like this is always my laundry day.  I spent the morning doing laundry.

何日も続いた雨の後、ついに太陽が！こういう日はいつも洗濯。午前中いっぱい洗濯です。

 I love drying my clothes outside in the sun.

太陽の下で服を乾かすのが大好き。

It cuts down on the use of electricity, and the sun makes the clothes smell clean and fresh.

電気代の節約になるし、太陽が服をフレッシュな香りにしてくれるの。

  I always straighten my clothes before hanging them up with strong wooden clothes pegs.

木製の洗濯バサミで吊るす前、服を真っ直ぐに。

That way I also reduce my ironing time.

こうすると後でアイアンが楽になるの。

Be sure to leave some space in between the clothes.

服と服の間は少し空けて。

It would only take a few hours to dry the clothes on a sunny day like today!

今日みたいな快晴だと数時間で乾きます！

 This is my favourite household chore!

Afternoon treat at Nicolas, Sangenchaya.

三軒茶屋、Nicolasでおやつ。

My friend and I were really happy to have found Nicolas after spending a long time in Sangenchaya, looking for a decent cafe where we could both enjoy some quality afternoon tea!

三軒茶屋でいろいろ探し回った後、Nicolasを見付けたときはワタシも友達も最高の気分！素敵なおやつを楽しめる上品なカフェです。

This was my very delicious and very flaky cherry pie.  It was mildly sweet, served with raspberry sorbet.  It tasted and looked like heaven!

これはワタシのチェリーパイ。サクサクしてとても美味。程良い甘さで、ラズベリーシャーベット付。天国にいるような気分になります！

My friend’s fig pie, she gave a thumb up after just one bite!

友達のイチジクパイ。一口食べただけで友達も大満足！

Tea was not from ordinary tea bag but fine tea leaves.

紅茶も上質な茶葉を使用。

 Nicolas is different from most cafes, not only they serve a good selection of quality sweets, but they also offers proper meals and open till late in the evening. Go to Nicolas if you are looking for late lunch in the area, as they start serving lunch from 2pm!

Nicolasが他のお店と違うのは、美味しいスイーツだけじゃなく、きちんとした食事もあり、また遅くまでオープンしているところ。少し遅めのランチを食べたいときは是非Nicolasに。ランチは2時からのスタートです。

Nicolas is not a non-smoking cafe!

Tweedia (Blue Stars) / トゥイーディア (ブルースター)

Another of my favourite blue flower is Tweedia, the blue little stars in my garden!

この青い花、トゥイーディアも大好き。星のようにお庭で青く輝いています。

The tweedia is a very important member in my flower bed.  The sky blue star-like flowers with velvety green leaves which  bloom from  June to autumn.

このトゥイーディア、花壇に欠かせません。青い星のような花、そしてベルベットグリーンの葉。6月から秋にかけて咲きます。

Tweedia is  a vine, and it can grow to a metre high, so some sort of support is necessary.

つる植物のトゥイーディアは1メートルほどの高さまで伸びますが、支えが必要です。

It has become my daily routine to check on the flowers every morning to get rid of aphids and unwanted pests.  Though butterflies are very welcome in my garden!

毎朝この花をチェックするのが私の日課。害虫を取り除きます。でも蝶は大歓迎！

After observing this little grey Lycaenidae resting on the Tweedia, maybe some day I’ll make a brooch inspired by this pretty sight!

グレーの小さなシジミチョウがトゥイーディアでひと休み。こんな可愛い光景をイメージしたブローチ、いつか作れるかしら！

Blue Gladiolus / 青いグラジオラス

Gladiolus also known as Sword Lily are available in various colours such as red, orange, yellow, and so on.  It has never been my favourite flower until I found the blue gladiolus bulbs in a garden shop.

スウォードリリーという名前も持つグラジオラス。赤、オレンジ、黄色など様々な色に咲きます。ガーデンショップで青い球根を見つけるまで、この花は好きではありませんでした。

They were not true blue as stated on the packet, they were actually light purple.

袋には青と記載されていますが、青というよりは薄いパープルです。

I planted the flower bulbs in spring, and they started to bloom in the peak of the summer.

春に植えた球根、真夏に咲き始めました。

Leaves shaped like swords emerged from the soil early in the summer before the flower spikes appeard later in the season.  The flowers bloomed from the bottom to the top.

初夏、剣（スウォード）のような形の葉が土から顔を出し、その後花の穂が現れます。花は下から上に順々に咲いていきます。

Here I captured raindrops on my flower!

花の上で光る雨露です！

 I had fresh cut gladiolus and rosemary in a vase to brighten and scent my room!

グラジオラスとローズマリーをカットし、花瓶に入れました。部屋が明るくなり、良い香りがします！

Today’s treat is Theomurata chocolates from Yufuin.

本日のおやつは湯布院で購入したチョコ。

I have been feeling depressed because of the bad weather, and eating chocolates at times like this would work as an instant pick-me-up for me!

天気が悪く気分がブルーな日々。こんな時はチョコを食べて元気を取り戻します！

I had chocolate covered roasted almonds dusted in cocoa powder, they were like magic beans, I popped one in my mouth and I felt better immediately!

中にはアーモンド、表面にはココアパウダー。一つ口に入れただけで気分がさっと晴れました。まるで魔法のチョコです！

These chocolates were made with a type of green tea leaves named Gyukuro (Jade Dew). The chocolate melted in my mouth and released a delicate tea fragrance that had an instant soothing effect on me.

このチョコには玉露の茶葉が使われています。口の中で溶けると、繊細なお茶の香りが広がり落ち着いた気分に。

Eight individually wrapped chocolates were packed inside a small container that resembled a Japanese lacqured tea caddy.  The seals had the name of the tea Gyukuro (jade dew) printed on them.

漆の茶缶をイメージした小さな入れ物の中に８個のチョコが一つ一つ包装されて入っています。入れ物には玉露の標も。

 I was impressed with the Japanese style package design, the shop’s presentation and service were just as good. Remember to check out Theomurata when shopping for souvenirs in Yufuin!
