Japanese Snowball Bush / おおてまり

My Golden Week officially ended today!  I spent the entire holiday spring cleaning and gardening.  I always get very excited around this time of the year, the weather warms up and my garden comes alive!  Most of the flowering plants in my little garden are hues of white, blue, and purple.  I am not sure if I should put “Flower Spectrum” as my catagory title.  But I’ll leave it as that for the time being.

今日でワタシのGWは終わり！休日はずっと掃除とガーデニングをしていました。天候も暖かくなり、庭も活き活きするので、この時期になるとm毎年ワクワクします！ワタシの小さな庭の花壇は、白、青、紫で色とりどりになります。

This is my Japanese Snowball Bush, I am so happy to see this flowering, because I had such a hard time keeping the worms from eating it’s young leaves and buds from early spring.  I needed to pick worms with tweezers everyday and twice a day for hours since Easter!

これは”おおてまり”。初春から、葉っぱやつぼみを虫が食い荒らすことから一生懸命守ってきたので、こうやって花が咲くのを見るのは本当に嬉しいです。

After I got rid of the worm enemies.  The flower buds were able to develop.

虫達を取り除いた後。つぼみが育ちました。

No more worms attacks by this stage.  Though the holes on the leaves were reminders of my early battles.

この状態になると、もう虫の攻撃はありません。葉っぱに残った穴は、ワタシと虫との格闘の思い出。

The colour of the flowers changed from green to white as they grew bigger.

大きくなるにつれて、花は緑から白にその色を変えます。

 At their peak!

そして今、花は満開！

 Women have this obsession with shoes, and it’s so true!   I found my perfect pair of ballet flats available in various colours.

女性は靴が大っ好き！ ワタシ、バレエシューズを各色揃えてみました。

オレンジ、ベイビーピンク、肌色、ライムグリーン、プリムローズイエロー、ライラック

I could not decide which colour I like best, so I bought them all!

どの色にするか決められなくて、結局全部買っちゃいました！！

Spring Stroll Under Cherry Blossoms / 桜満開、春の散策

My friend trusted me to look after her boy and girl twins for an afternoon.

友達の双子（男の子・女の子）の世話を頼まれました。

It was a lovely spring day, the cherry blossoms were at their peak.

気持ちのよい春の日。桜は満開です。

I decied to take the twins out for a stroll.

双子と一緒に散策に行くことに！

Spring, the best time of the year, when everything comes alive.

1年を通して最高のシーズン。全てのものが活き活きしています。

 Though I have sore arms from holding two giggling babies at the same time!  It was the perfect day for a stroll.

笑いが止まらない2人を抱え、腕がヒリヒリ。でも散策には最高の日。

Look at this!  How I wish the cherry blossoms were always in full bloom!

ほら見て！桜、いつも満開だったら良いのになぁ！

St.Valentine’s Day at Hopetoun Tea Rooms, Melbourne.

メルボルンのホープタウンティールームでバレンタインデーを過ごすことに。

Inside one of the most beautiful historic shopping arcades, the Block Arcade in Central Melbourne, I am celebrating St.Valentine’s Day in authentic Victorian surroundings.

メルボルン中心地、歴史のあるアーケード “ブロックアーケード”の中にあるこのお店。ビクトリア様式に囲まれた場所でバレンタインデーのお祝いです。

 

This charming cake display belongs to the Hopetoun Tea Rooms which has been serving delicious cakes and tea since 1892.

思わず見とれてしまうこのケーキディスプレイ。1892年からケーキとお茶を提供しています。

It’s interior reflects its history.  Sitting inside the tea rooms is like stepping back in time.

インテリアからも歴史を感じます。店内にいるだけで時代を遡っているような感覚に陥ります。

Here is my slice of  Black Forest with Modemoiselle Grey tea (Earl Grey blended with rose petals).  The most delicious Black forest I’ve tasted so far!

これはブラックフォレスト。マドモアゼルグレイ（バラの花びらを加えたアールグレイ）と一緒に楽しみます。今まで食べたブラックフォレスとの中で最高のテイストでした！

 Chatting gently to my sweetheart who is absorbed in his Raspberry Tart while sipping organic Lemon Myrtle tea.

ラズベリータルトとレモンマートル・オーガニックティーに夢中のダーリンとお話も。

Sharing a piece of the Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake decoracted with a gelatinized Hibiscus.

ゼラチン状のハイビスカスでデコレーションされたピスタチオ・ラズベリーチーズケーキは２人でシェア。

St.Valentine’s Day at Hopetoune Tea rooms (click), another slice of fond memory to be recalled in the distant future.

Today’s treat is turnip cake.

今日のおやつは大根餅。

Turnip cake is my favourite dim sum.  It is also one of the festive food for the Chinese New Year.

大根餅はお気に入りの点心。旧正月のお祝いで作る料理の1つです。

 I attempted to make my own at home and it turned out to be very successful!

自家製にトライ、上手く出来ました！

Turnip cake is made of shredded radish and rice flour, flavored with finely cut shitake, dried shrimps, and dried scallops.  In Hong Kong they are usually being sold in round foil trays, but I steamed mine using retangular pound cake pans for easy slicing.

きざんだ大根と米粉を混ぜ、そこに細かく切った椎茸、干しエビ、干しホタテで味を加えます。香港ではホイルを丸くした入れ物に入れて売られています。でもワタシのは長方形のパウンドケーキ用で蒸しました。こっちの方がカットしやすいし。

After steaming, sliced, then pan fired both sides with a little oil until slightly brown and crispy.  Served with chilly oil.  Delicious!

蒸した後はカットし、油を少し使ってフライパンで両面を焼き、少し焦げたら完成。辣油を付けて食べます。美味しいです！
