Kyoko’s 365 Days of Treat/Kyokoのおやつ: 40

1st March 2011

Today’s treat is Hung Fook Tong’s almond flavor Dragon’s Beard Candy.

The white outer layer resembling a ball of cotton wool is actually fine white sugar strings wrapped around a center of crushed almonds, shredded coconuts, sesame seeds, and sugar.

History said that the Dragon’s Beard candy was invented for an Emperor around 2000 years ago. The fine white sugar threads resembling dragon’s beard is how the candy got its name from.  In Hong Kong this popular treat is made fresh and sold on the spot by street vendors, the ones produced and packed in factories are available in the recent years.

My dear friend had sent me this delicious treat from Hong Kong. Though delicious, but iven the chance I would love to taste the freshly made ones, as nothing beats the real thing!
